Sports

A wide variety of sports are enjoyed by the cadets. Most are played not only at squadron level, but also at Wing, Regional and National levels.

Football

This popular sport is played by almost all cadets. From a knock around outside the squadron on a parade night through to competitions at national level, all abilities are catered for.

Rugby

This sport is not as popular as football. Usually a squadron will not be able to field a full 15 man team, but all Wings have teams and trials for places on these teams are held regularily. Sevens are sometimes played to aid these selections.

Netball

This sport is only played by females within the cadets. Due to numbers some squadrons cannot field a full team, but all Wings have teams and trials for places on these teams are held regularily.

Hockey

Athletics

This sport is played by almost everyone within the cadets. At the athletics meetings held every year all squadrons take part and most manage to win some medals.
A large range of events take place at these meetings. The 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m on the track. The discus, shot, javalin, long and high jumps on the field.

Swimming

Lots of cadets like to swim, all are encourage to try while on the Cadets. At camps where there are swimming pools cadets can try for their ATC and RAF swimming proficiencies.
There are championships every year to find the best swimmers, thought the best cheers are often heard for those who try but come last. Some squadrons hold their own swimming championships, most visit the local swimming pool regularily to get their cadets wet and have fun.

Cross Country

Most cadets will run a mile if chased. For those who want to run further there is an annual cross country championship, where dispite mud, wind and rain they run and enjoy themselves.
Often a cadet who has taken a lot of encouragement to take part finds that they are a lot better than they first thought.
